What does ASSA do for the environment?

We have done the following environmental adaptations:

• Reduced waste sent to landfills by 94% through sorting of all by-products at source
• Installed a new dust extraction plant
• Implemented a more environment-friendly chromium process with no hexavalent chromium
• Eliminated trichloroethylene in our processes and replaced it with a more environmental method
• Reduced hydroxide sludge by investing in new sludge drying equipment
Previously municipal water was used in the surface treatment processes. After investments in a filter system, we now use water directly from the Eskilstunaån River
• As members of the Hjälmaren Water Conservation Association, we can monitor and have a say in the status of the catchment area of the Eskilstunaån
• Introduced biological degreasing systems, which significantly extend the lifespan of degreasing baths.
• Begun introducing environmental packaging
• Nickel-free Miralloy surface treatment
• ISO 14000 environmental certification

What we still want to achieve:

• Phase out all freon
• Replace solvent-based coatings with powder coatings
• Expand our range of allergy-friendly products and surface treatment alternatives
• Return and destroy worn-out products
• Obtain EMAS registration
• Reduce the amount of water released from surface treatment
• Reduce the emission of metals from surface treatment
• Continue greening our packaging
• Observe life cycle alternatives for new products
• Introduce more low-energy methods and processes

Environmental declarations

We have generated environmental declarations to inform our customers of the environmental impact of our products. ASSA products and packaging today have very little environmental impact.

The most common products in our range have environmental declarations, which are provided on the request of customers.

They describe the materials in the product, whether any of them are listed in the Swedish Chemicals Agency’s PRIO or Restricted Substance databases, and whether any of them can cause allergic reactions.

The environmental declarations are available in English as well as Swedish.
