1980–1999 A new era

ASSA’s 100th anniversary was the start of a series of big, important, and above all positive changes for the company.

The same year that ASSA turned 100, 1981, ASSA introduced its Twin lock, a big step forward in security development. The Twin system combined the best of the old locks with new technology. In 1984 it was time for the ASSA 2000, “the lion of locks”, still one of Sweden’s most sold locks today. In the early 1990s, electromechanical locks had their great breakthrough. In 1991 came the ASSA Locktronic and the ASSA Twin Combi. Two years later, the ASSA Twintronic was launched – the first approved lock with the advantages and convenience of an access control system. In 1988, security company Securitas acquired ASSA, and in 1990 the company was split into two separate companies: ASSA AB and ASSA Industri AB. Major investments and development in this period led to the ASSA of today. In 1994 ASSA ABLOY was founded – now the global leader in door opening solutions, dedicated to satisfying end-user needs for security, safety and convenience.
