Addion at St. Petri School

Combating resistant bacteria is becoming increasingly important as MRSA and epidemics are on the rise. The St. Petri School in Malmö has installed ASSA door handles with the Addion antibacterial surface treatment throughout the building.

1,000 people a day

During the school year, around 1,000 people pass through the school corridors on a daily basis. When it was time to renovate the St. Petri school, its owner, Stadsfastigheter, and construction company Er-Ho Bygg AB “latched onto” the idea of trying out ASSA’s new antibacterial surface treatment on door handles and thumbturns. The Addion door handles are part of a complete concept of ASSA solutions proposed by Lås och Larmteknik in Malmö.

Extremely durable

Addion is a metallic surface treatment containing silver ions. The silver ions migrate to the surface, where they begin breaking down bacteria and microorganisms. The antibacterial effect remains as long as the durable surface treatment, comparable to chrome, is intact.

Decorative

The Addion handles, whose surface is reminiscent of brushed stainless steel, are an attractive addition to the doors of classrooms, the library and the staff room at St. Petri. Historical atmosphere in modern technology meet when the teacher’s access card sweeps past the reader on the door, the blue light illuminates and the door unlocks. The teachers unlock doors with an access card or tag, sometimes in combination with a code for certain areas such as computer rooms and laboratories.

Highly appreciated

It’s obvious that school custodian Per-Åke Brodin really appreciates the door environments.
“Look at this,” he says, showing off his key ring with the ASSA key. “Now I only need this one key. I used to have to carry a giant key ring.”
